A Personal Quest to Help My Daughter Became My Passion to Help Others
I was a chiropractor when my daughter was diagnosed with ADHD. Not liking any of the options the medical community presented to me, I looked for a non-invasive, drug-free approach to help her. After several years trying every alternative therapy I could find, without success, my research led me to neurofeedback. I was surprised to discover neurofeedback had over four decades of university-level research supporting its efficacy.
My daughter was my first patient in the realm of neurofeedback.
After only three to four weeks of neurofeedback training, my wife and I noticed an increase in our daughter’s reading ability, as well an increase in her ability to retain information from her school lessons. This led to an increase in her self esteem, which was a great relief to our whole family. One day we were pleasantly surprised to discover that she had organized her room!
My biggest question at that point, when we saw that neurofeedback was actually working, was whether or not the changes would last. It turned out they would–and did. Permanent change happens when the brain is trained properly and sufficiently, causing new connections to be created and established. This is the phenonmenon of neuroplasticity, which refers to the brain’s ability to reshape and remodel itself.
After seeing how neurofeedback changed my daughter’s life trajectory, and thus our family’s, it became my personal goal to spread the word that there is a safe and effective alternative to help our children. I changed the focus of my practice because I was thrilled to take part in sharing a drug-free, non-invasive solution to the difficulties so many experience with ADD/ADHD and other learning challenges. Over a decade later, I could not be happier with my choice!
While my initial focus was helping children, I began to discover how Neurofeedback could help adolescents, adults and seniors.
Eventually, neurofeedback revealed immense benefits for adults. These days, half of our clients are adults. Now we use neurofeedback at Asheville Brain Training and Greenville Brain Training to help people with symptoms associated with:
